Project: It is 2030...
Synopsis:
You graduated with a B. Arch, maybe a Master’s degree several years ago. You now have your own firm.
In response to new technologies and dwindling resources, our entire built environment has changed since you time at ELAC.
The widespread adoption of digital technologies has led to profound changes in how we communicate with others, live, travel, shop for goods and services, receive news, manage our finances, learn about the world, participate in politics, deliver and receive medical care, conduct business, manage resources, farm, find entertainment…
At the same time, ‘less is more’ is still as powerful a design statement as it was when architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe adopted the motto as an aesthetic and functional tactic toward minimalism where every element and detail serves multiple purposes. In 2030, deeply effective design solutions add value to design by reducing resource consumption, minimizing or even eradicating environmental impacts, improving contribution to ecosystems, celebrating aesthetics and function, and creating healthier spaces. Design encompasses supporting end-users, the economics of the project, and the environment of our planet.
Back to 2012…
You are still at ELAC.
Close your eyes and imagine how people live, work, or play in 2030. Take that mental inspiration and build a design proposal that does not just get outside-of-the-box, but redefines “the box” entirely.
